The Thin Horse
A logical clinical approach

Ill
thrift and/or weight loss in the horse can arise for diverse reasons including dietary insufficiency, dental disease, intestinal
parasitism, gastrointestinal disease, liver failure and, less commonly, endocrine, neurological and renal disease. This diversity
presents a considerable clinical challenge to make an accurate diagnosis in an efficient and cost effective manner. Using
clinical case examples, a logical clinical approach to the thin horse will be presented.
