Secretary General

Veterinary Northern Ireland (VetNI)

The Secretary General is the only full-time member of staff employed by the Company, responsible for effective liaison and communication between the veterinary organisations, the profession as a whole and external bodies including DARD and the media, and providing essential professional support to the Councils of the veterinary organisations in the Province.

The Secretary General is also involved in the provision and co-ordination of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses in Northern Ireland.

Jo Gibson

Jo came to VetNI via a slightly unusual route; she is a mechanical engineer with particular experience in project planning.  However her more recent work history has been very varied and perhaps more relevant, and has included employment as a P.A. and events organiser, working for a film director, and a period of self-employment offering services such as database management and accounts/book-keeping to small businesses and charities.
She grew up in a farming community, and is well aware of the pressures on vets in practice as she has been married to one for over 20 years.

Jo is the second Secretary General of the Company.

Campbell Dunbar

Campbell is a recent addition to the VetNI team; he is a petroleum geologist who recently graduated with an MSc in Environmental Engineering. His recent experience has focused heavily on project planning, management and peat bogs (Campbell is still trying without success to find a transferable skill from this).

Campbell provides a technical support role to VetNI.
